...a pilot while starting your car?
Honestly I was looking for an excuse to post this blurry pic I took during work this week. But I also really feel like a pilot starting my car specifically recently. Here’s the deal, I have winter tires on with no TPMS, it’s cold out, and and I don’t like automatic start/stop.
This means when I get in my seat I follow these steps:
1) Start ignition.
2) Shift out of first into neutral.
3) Press the Sport button that turns off the auto stop/start.
4) Press the heated seat button.
5) Push the stalk that ignores the no TPMS warning light.
6) Pull the lever that releases the e-brake.
7) Shift to first then TAKE OFF!
At first I thought it was a bit of a hassle, but now I love it. DANGER ZONE!

I feel that. My winter procedure basically goes:
1: S tart the car
2: Hit the rocker switch to turn the heated seats on hi
3: Hit the button to turn the r ear defroster on
4: Hit the VDC off button if the snow’s deep
5: Set Bluetooth Audio for whatever album I want to listen to
6: Release handbrake
7: Select first (or reverse)
8: Take off

Perhaps if cars had more throw switches and levers to operate

Quite the opposite actually. Starting up the car up basically happens automatically for me. I can’t even think right now if I release the parking brake before or after I start the car. Definitely no checklist rundown here.

Haha well technically I don’t NEED to turn on the heated seats, ignore the warning, go into sport mode , or even release the e-brake myself... But it's fun! Like manual vs automatic, it's not about the most technically easy or most efficient method, it's just fun pushin buttons.

My heated seats remember their last setting, so I’m rarely messing with those either.

Is it cheating if you're actually a pilot?

Is your Grey Poupon freshly stocked nightly?

Yes. But cheating is encouraged.

Yup.
1. Flip open key as I approach vehicle (cheap-o Jetta has a spring loaded key fob, but no auto-open doors).
2 . En ter car and i nsert key in proper sequence. Must make sure to insert directly into ignition slot. No scratching of surrounding plastic allowed. Twist key to fire ignition.
3. Attach iphone to magentic dock
4. Attach cable to iphone.
4a. Optional cursing for when iphone and car don’t mate. Remove cable and reinsert. Repeat until phone and car mate. Additional cursing is allowed when mating does not occur.
5. Release e-brake by pressing e-brake button
6. Turn off auto-stop by pressing auto-stop button.
7. Put it into reverse and use backup camera and my own good sense to back out of driveway.
8. Put into drive.
9. Wait 5 seconds
10. Pull back on shifter to put it into Sport mode.
11. Launch! But softly, because the oil isn’t heated up and this is a turbo VW. Go d knows how many miles I’ve got left in it before it blows up. I’ve made it to 7,000 miles, so that’s something.
